Records and Histories of the Wisconsin Churches
Wisconsin's historic Freewill Baptist churches numbered more than 200 from 1840 to 1911, when the denomination merged with the greater Baptist Church. While congregations were most heavily distributed in the counties south and west of the Wisconsin River, there were churches in more than 40 of Wisconsin's 72 counties (see map). Records continue to be uncovered, and existing records continue to be confirmed and clarified. The table below represents the society's latest guide to Wisconsin's Freewill congregations. Question marks adjacent to county names in the table indicate a "best guess" but have not been confirmed.
